DETAIL DESCRIPTION

AXH air-coolers Type FF is a forced draft, multiple-fan, vertical discharge design with a lower profile that is ideal for large HP applications while providing bonus features at a cost that compares favorably to a large single fan vertical discharge cooler

Advantage Summary

  • Combined engine, compressor, and multiple-stage gas cooling in a single multiple fan unit
  • Forced draft design is inherently more efficient
  • Narrow width and lower profile
  • Section design facilitates piping
  • Single, fan-shaft drive
  • Improved safety with excellent visual inspection and access to critical moving parts

Low-profile Design and Narrow Width

The Type FF design is ideal for large HP applications where a single fan cooler is unable to meet the application requirements due to physical size limitations. The lower profile and narrow width can simplify shipping and reduce transportation costs due to special routing or when compared to multiple coolers. Site plan area can often be reduced in multiple unit installations.

Efficient Forced Draft Design

The FF is a forced draft, vertical discharge, multiple-fan design is that it is inherently more efficient in which the fan handles cool, dense ambient air. As a result, the fan requires less fan horsepower than an induced draft cooler.

Multiple-Fan Design Provides Flexibility And Reliability

By using multiple fans with individual plenum chambers each fan bay can be isolated thus offering continued operation in the event of a fan or bearing failure. Fans can also be isolated during cold weather operation to reduce parasite fan HP and provide better air and temperature control. Models range in fan size from 48" to 144" incorporating up to five fans.

Functional Design Cuts Piping Costs

Normal design procedures used in the rating process facilitates piping. This results is nozzle arrangements that reduce piping costs. The design provides for greater accessibility to piping, drive, bearings and coils. The added open, drive-end space makes engine inspection and maintenance easier which can accommodate the installation of other equipment thus maximizing use of skid space. When installed on a common single skid it can eliminate the expense of a separate "T-skid" as well as the inconvenience and costly drive and piping disassembly and field reassembly in many applications.

Drive Options

Although normally V-belt driven from the engine or compressor the Type FF can be provided with an electric motors, hydraulic drives or even small gas engines.

Improved Safety And Maintenance

A forced draft design is considered to be safer with the fan working against a positive static head of pressure between the fan and coils. Both fan and bearings are located in cool ambient air and provide for visual inspection and easy access provided for maintenance of all moving components.

Options

Adjustable aluminum shutters are an option on all Type FF coolers. Shutters with remote linkage provide superior air flow characteristics and improved operating efficiency. Individual manual operators or optional air motors provide temperature control by allowing independent louver adjustment over separate services. Bug screens, hail or discharge/personnel guards, access ladders and warm air recirculation systems are common options.
